Healthy Crumpets (2 ingredients)
Ever wondered how to make home-made crumpets? Here is a super easy, healthy recipes for you, your family and your baby led weaner 6mo+
Ingredients
- 1 cup (230g) of cooked (cooled) Cous Cous (prep: let 80g of raw cous cous sit in 130ml of boiling water for a few minutes)
- 2 large eggs (or 3 small/medium eggs)
Directions
- Step 1 In a bowl combine your cooked and cooled cous cous with 2 eggs.
- Step 2 On a stove top, medium heat, with a little olive oil or unsalted butter, spoon out 1 sized crumpet leaving it nice and thick, wait until you can see some little bubbles form on top (which should be really quickly approx 30 seconds), then flip to cook the other size of the crumpet.
- Step 3 Once cooked, remove from heat and place on a wired rack to cool a little, then serve with any spread of your choice! (unsalted butter, avocado, *peanut butter, *nut or *seed butters, banana, yogurt – you name it!) You can serve either as savoury or sweet. These make great burger buns for the whole family!
- Step 4 How to serve to 6-8 month old: serve in finger size strips or offer a small crumpet whole the size of a babies fist, with preferred topping. 8 month old+ serve either whole or in bite size pieces so baby can practice his pincer grip. To freeze: dry freeze the crumpets, store in a zip lock bag or airtight container for up to 3 months. To defrost: place straight into the toaster to reheat or microwave for 30sec. (*nut and seeds butters may be a potential allergy food for some babies, check with your dr if you have any questions or concerns)
